The Alpinia zerumbet ‘Variegata’, also known as the Variegated Shell Ginger or Variegated Ginger, is a striking tropical houseplant prized for its long, elegant leaves boldly striped in shades of green, cream and golden yellow. This fast-growing ornamental plant creates a lush, exotic display and makes an impressive statement plant for bright homes, conservatories and warm indoor spaces. Mature plants grown in ideal conditions can also produce beautiful clusters of fragrant, shell-like flowers, adding to the appeal of this colourful tropical plant.

Light: Alpinia zerumbet ‘Variegata’ thrives in bright, indirect light and can tolerate some gentle direct morning or evening sun. Plenty of light helps maintain its vibrant variegation and encourages strong, healthy growth. Avoid prolonged harsh midday sunlight, which can scorch the foliage.

Water: Keep the soil consistently lightly moist during the growing season, allowing the top few centimetres to dry slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly, ensuring excess water drains away freely. Reduce watering during the cooler winter months when growth slows. This tropical houseplant appreciates higher humidity, which will help keep its large leaves healthy and reduce dry, brown edges.

Our 'Enviro-boxes' have been developed in conjunction with WRAP, the Waste and Resources Action Programme, the Enviro-box offers a sustainable and reliable alternative to larger double wall boxes.

Delivery Info

Nationwide Shipping
Online orders are processed and dispatched within seven business days. The standard delivery fee is £5.95 for orders below £65; free shipping for orders above £65. Our plants are shipped Monday to Wednesday. Orders received Thursday to Sunday will be shipped the following Monday to avoid live plant products sitting in warehouses over the weekend. Your order will be sent via DPD or Royal Mail using their next day service.

Click & Collect
All our products are available for Click and Collect from our Chiswick store at 21 Turnham Green Terrace, W4 1RG. We will notify you once your order is ready to collect from our store but we aim to have them ready 1 hour after receiving your order. If you would rather collect your purchase from our Northfields store please contact us before placing your order and we will see if this can be facilitated.
