The Opuntia cochenillifera, also known as the Nopal Cactus, Cochineal Nopal, or Prickly Pear Cactus, is a striking succulent prized for its large, flattened paddle-shaped stems and impressive architectural form. Native to tropical regions of the Americas, this fast-growing cactus makes a dramatic statement plant for sunny homes, conservatories, and cactus collections. Mature specimens can also produce vibrant pink flowers followed by colourful fruits under the right conditions.

Light: Opuntia cochenillifera thrives in bright light and enjoys several hours of direct sunlight each day. A sunny windowsill, greenhouse, or conservatory is ideal. Plenty of light encourages strong, healthy growth and helps maintain its compact, upright form.

Water: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. As a drought-tolerant cactus, it stores water in its stems and requires only infrequent watering. Water sparingly during the growing season and reduce watering significantly throughout winter. Always ensure excess water drains away freely to prevent root rot.

Delivery Info

Nationwide Shipping
Online orders are processed and dispatched within seven business days. The standard delivery fee is £5.95 for orders below £65; free shipping for orders above £65. Our plants are shipped Monday to Wednesday. Orders received Thursday to Sunday will be shipped the following Monday to avoid live plant products sitting in warehouses over the weekend. Your order will be sent via DPD or Royal Mail using their next day service.

Click & Collect
All our products are available for Click and Collect from our Chiswick store at 21 Turnham Green Terrace, W4 1RG. We will notify you once your order is ready to collect from our store but we aim to have them ready 1 hour after receiving your order. If you would rather collect your purchase from our Northfields store please contact us before placing your order and we will see if this can be facilitated.
